Why Start With Geofencing Marketing & Data Targeting?

Location Is Everything?

Geofencing Advertising is a form of location-based advertising, where any time a potential customer enters a geographically designated area (called a ‘geofence’), a specific advertisement is served on their mobile device. For example, a customer walking in proximity to a clothing store may receive an advertisement for 20% off when he/she is within a defined distance from the clothing store.

The main benefit of geofencing is the ability to serve a hyper-targeted and customized ad to a potential customer.

Our FAQ's

How Much Does Geofencing Costs?

There are typically two buying models for Geofencing campaigns – CPM (Cost per Mille or Cost per 1,000 impressions) and CPV (Cost per Visit).

CPM Model
CPM is the most common buying model for geofencing, and typically accompanies brand awareness campaigns or campaigns that want to reach a particular audience. Pricing typically ranges between $3.50-$15 CPM for mobile and desktop campaigns, and between $20-$50 CPM for Connected TV campaigns. The pricing range of CPMs varies depending on a number of factors such as the volume of impressions purchased or the types of targeting tactics used. The more localized or narrow your targeting is, the higher the CPM will be.

CPV Model
CPV is a guaranteed performance buying model in which marketers only pay for ads that result in a store visit. This geofencing buying model removes the risk or guesswork of traditional media buying and shifts accountability from buyer to partner, bringing improved transparency and simplicity to the advertising industry. CPV is ideal if your KPIs are focused on real-world outcomes, such as generating more foot traffic and increasing the frequency of in-store visits from past customers. CPV pricing will vary on a number of factors such as the number of drive-to locations for the campaign, the number of impressions available based on the targeting tactics used for the campaign, and additional data layers used.

How Accurate Is Geofencing?

Accuracy will depend on the type of geofencing employed. Radial geofencing, which is the most common form of geofencing, uses radial fences. This is when you drop a pin on a location and then create a circular radius around the center of that location.

The accuracy of this form of geofence is determined by two factors. The first is making sure that the center of the geofence is accurate. This is usually determined by the address of the location. However, there are limitations to this form of geofencing. For example, since addresses were built to provide directions to the location, many times the physical location is across a parking lot or on the street. If this is the case, then your accuracy is diminished and you will have wasted ad spend. The second factor that influences accuracy is the size of the radial fence. The bigger the radial fence the more people you will reach. However, if your goal is to reach a specific audience, this can lead to wasted ad spend as well. An alternative to radial geofencing is polygon mapping, which is done by tracing the store or place boundary based on satellite images.

This is a more accurate form of geofencing. By identifying the exact parameters of a business or point of interest, polygon mapping is able to provide more accurate store visitation and targeting solutions. Blueprints mapping takes polygon mapping one step further by mapping the store, parking lot, and retail block of a business location, which enables marketers to reach consumers with various messages depending on their shopper journey. Both polygon mapping and Blueprints are proven to be more accurate and effective than radial fence targeting. In fact, in a 3 month test comparing visits to store locations from Blueprints vs. radial fences, we found there was 84% more ad waste when using radial fences.

How to do Hyper-local Geo Targeting?

BLDS INDIA’s proprietary mapping technology, Blueprints, maps the real world in a virtual environment with the highest levels of accuracy and precision, enabling the ability for hyper geo targeting. Our Blueprints are the foundation of all products and tactics developed here at BLDS INDIA. By providing accurate context to location data, BLDS INDIA can effectively target and reach consumers based on their physical behaviours. Our suite of hyper-local geo targeting products can help you reach customers in your communities at different points in their customer journey:

On-Premise Targeting allows you to reach consumers while they are actually on the premises of a given location whether that be a store or a stadium. This hyper geotargeting granularity is extremely valuable for advertisers who want to reach consumers in a very precise location. Proximity Targeting enables advertisers to reach consumers while they are near a specific location.

Audience Targeting connects you with consumers based on past visitation behaviours. As a user visits a brand or category location, they are bucketed into that specific audience for the next 90 days, allowing you to target existing customers or conquest your competitors’ audiences.

Who Uses Geo Marketing?

Geomarketing is popular amongst marketers and advertisers who wish to market a product or service to potential customers who are within a defined geographical area. Targeting usually involves serving a mobile ad to likely customers as they get in close proximity to a business, but also can be used to pull potential customers from competitors (known as “geo-conquesting”) or market attractions to visitors to an area. Geomarketing is effective for many businesses and organizations, including small businesses and large companies.

How Does Geofencing Advertising Work?

Geofencing Advertising is a form of location-based advertising, where any time a potential customer enters a geographically designated area (called a ‘geofence’), a specific advertisement is served on their mobile device. For example, a customer walking in proximity to a clothing store may receive an advertisement for 20% off when he/she is within a defined distance from the clothing store.

The main benefit of geofencing is the ability to serve a hyper-targeted and customized ad to a potential customer when they are likely ready to purchase or within the area of a relevant business or competitor, ultimately leading to a greater chance of an in-store visit. As soon as the user has exited the ‘virtual fence’, they are no longer qualified to receive the ad.
